Send messages and call your contacts safely

Signal - Private Messenger is a free social and communication mobile app that enables you to message and call without worrying about security. Developed by Signal Messenger, LLC, this cross-platform centralized encrypted messaging service lets you send one-to-one and group messages online. You can also send media such as files, images, videos, and even voice notes. A web app version is available for those who prefer desktop use.

Is Signal Private Messenger safe?

Signal - Private Messenger is similar to other communication apps like WhatsApp and Telegram, in which you can send SMS messages, voice calls, and video calls to your contacts. For its security measures, it uses state-of-the-art end-to-end encryption to maintain your privacy. Your messages are also quickly delivered regardless of your current connection speed and you won’t have to deal with any ads.

The app has other cool features that make it a great social networking platform, as well. It has enhanced audio and video quality for both voice and video calls. However, video calls here don’t have the best sound quality compared to other apps. There’s a custom alert feature that lets you set one for each of your contacts. You also get to use a built-in image editor for photos—complete with a handy text tool.

How does Signal Private Messenger work?

From the start, you can easily restore a saved backup when you first launch Signal - Private Messenger. Moving on, it will prompt you to allow access to your contacts. You can actually skip this and go straight to verifying your phone number first. The code you’ll receive will actually be automatically registered once you get it, so you don’t even have to type it in.

Then, you have to set up your profile with a mandatory first name, as well as create your own four-digit PIN for your saved data. You won’t need this as a password but it can’t be recovered with a simple process so it’s recommended to keep your PIN reminders enabled. Once you’re done, you can now access the main menu, which is where your recent chats will be displayed. The two buttons at the bottom-right corner are for creating them and accessing your camera.

The top-left corner button is where you can access your profile and settings. The settings can also be found in the top-right corner button’s drop-down menu. There, you can find three other options: New Group, Mark All Read, and Invite Friends. Lastly, the search tool is next to the drop-down menu. With the settings, you can fiddle around with advanced features like linked devices, media auto-download, read receipts, and privacy locks. Plus, you can enable the ever-handy Dark Mode.

Much better for messaging

Overall, Signal - Private Messenger is a nice option if you want to change communication apps or are looking for reliable alternatives. While its video calls leave much to be desired and your PIN can’t be retrieved once lost, it’s highly user-friendly and secure for anyone. It even offers advanced settings that both beginners and veterans will appreciate. This is a highly recommended app to try out.
